Frequently Asked Questions

What unit categories are supported?

This converter supports length (miles, km, inches, cm, feet, yards), weight (lbs, kg, oz, g), temperature (Fahrenheit, Celsius, Kelvin), volume (gallons, liters, fl oz, ml), area (sq ft, sq m, acres), speed (mph, km/h, m/s), and time (hours, minutes, seconds, days, weeks).

How do I convert between temperature scales?

The formulas are: Fahrenheit to Celsius: (°F - 32) × 5/9; Celsius to Fahrenheit: °C × 9/5 + 32; Celsius to Kelvin: °C + 273.15; Kelvin to Celsius: K - 273.15. This calculator handles all three automatically.

Why are some conversions approximate?

Some imperial-to-metric conversions involve irrational numbers. For example, 1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly by definition (since 1959), but volume and weight conversions between systems often involve rounding. For scientific or engineering use, verify precision requirements.

What is the difference between volume and weight conversions?

Volume measures space (liters, gallons), while weight measures mass (kilograms, pounds). Converting between them requires knowing the density of the substance — for example, 1 liter of water weighs about 1 kg, but 1 liter of honey weighs more. For substances other than water, you need a density to convert accurately.
